JPG, PNG or WebP: choose your format

Compare image formats for application photos, transparent backgrounds, and publishing on the web.

JPG: photos and everyday submissions

JPG is widely used for photos. Adjusting quality can reduce file size, but heavy compression can blur edges and text. JPG cannot retain transparency, so Image Garden fills transparent areas with white.

PNG: transparency and clean graphics

PNG is useful for transparent backgrounds, logos, and text-heavy images. Reducing a quality value does not shrink PNG files. If a PNG exceeds your limit, reduce its dimensions or choose JPG or WebP.

WebP: an option for the web

WebP supports transparency and is saved with adjustable quality in this tool. Actual savings depend on the image. Some submission sites and older programs do not accept it, so check the accepted formats first.

Metadata and extra frames

Image Garden draws the photo into a new image and does not copy EXIF location, camera information, or similar source metadata. Keep your original if that information matters for archiving or professional editing.

This is a still-photo tool. It does not preserve full animations, multi-frame images, or Live Photos.
