Compress photos to a KB limit

Reduce photos below 100 KB or 200 KB while choosing the right quality and dimensions.

File size and dimensions are different

File size is the storage an image uses, measured in KB or MB. Dimensions are its width and height in pixels. A 600 × 800 pixel image can have many different file sizes depending on the photo and format. Check both requirements when submitting a file.

Image Garden uses decimal units: 1 KB is 1,000 bytes and 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes. Some apps use 1,024-byte units, so their displayed numbers can differ. Leave a little room below your destination’s limit to avoid boundary issues.

How to get below 100 KB or 200 KB

Choose a photo, enter 100 or 200 under maximum file size, and select KB. If your destination also specifies dimensions, enter those too. Start with JPG for ordinary photos. Process the image to adjust quality within the requested limit.

Check the actual byte count and pixel dimensions on the result. An “Over size limit” image can still be downloaded, but it does not satisfy your requirement. Try JPG or WebP, or allow dimensions to shrink, and process again.

When exact dimensions matter

Enter both width and height and select “Crop from center” for an exact pixel size. Leave “Reduce dimensions if the file is too large” off. Cropping removes edges, so inspect the preview for faces or important details that might be cut off.

This tool does not certify passport or identity photos. After matching size and dimensions, check your destination’s other rules about backgrounds, face placement, and photo age.

Understand the tradeoff

JPG and WebP can lose fine details when quality is reduced. Inspect text, hair, and edges in the saved image. PNG does not get smaller through a quality setting; reducing dimensions or changing formats is usually more useful.

Enlarging a small original does not restore missing detail. Keep your original and submit the newly downloaded file.
